Instagram™ Hashtag Tips: How to Find Your Target Audience

In this video, I get the opportunity to do a private coaching call with my girl, Rhonda Clark. I start the call by first asking her to tell me a little bit about herself 🤗.

 

She tells me that she has been in direct sales for seven years with the same company. She loves the work she does, aside from the struggles she sometimes faces.

 

She has recently taken her sales online 📱, which has upped her game even more!

Social media is constantly evolving so you’re never going to feel like you’ve mastered it 💯 percent. I’m always adding more to my Instaboost course because Instagram is always changing and updating.

 

I also do this because my goal is that you NEVER 🙅‍♀️ have to take another Instagram course ever again.

 

Next, I asked Rhonda what her struggles have been on Instagram. One struggle she mentioned is hashtags.

 

 


A lot of people struggle with hashtags and it’s totally understandable.


 

 

When it comes to hashtags I think it’s really important to narrow it down to who we are, what we love, and where we shop. This is what I personally look 🔍 for when I look for hashtags.

 

The hashtags “financial freedom” and “residual income”, for example WILL NOT be helpful for you to use. Please AVOID these!

 

People posting these hashtags are typically trying to sell people the concept of financial freedom.

 

They’re not the people you’re targeting. The people you’re targeting may not even realize they need financial freedom or know what residual income is.

 

Most of the time we think we have to use these big hashtags, but the key is niching it up. Make sure the hashtag isn’t too broad and targets the audience you’re trying to reach.

A lot of people struggle with hashtags because they’re using generic ones that target all the wrong people.

 

If you’re in the weight loss industry for example, it would be perfect to follow/ recruit someone who blogs about healthy recipes. Think about it for a minute. Their audience is already interested in loosing weight.

 

These are the people who would be interested in a weight loss product.

 

 


 

If moms are your target audience for example, ask yourself:

 

What are things that moms do?

Where do moms shop 🛒?

What do moms 🗣️ talk about?

What are some problems moms are looking to solve?

 


 

These are super important questions you need to think about when it comes to hashtags.

 

 

If you’re creating a Facebook group to target people, I have a quick hack 💡 for you when it comes to the name of your group.

 

 


You can keep the name of your group, then do a dash, and change the back end of the name.


 

 

For example, I have a Health and Wellness Facebook group and I change the back end based on the challenge I’m doing that month. It could be – Intermittent Fasting or – Keto or – Raw Food.

 

Changing the name of the Facebook group also notifies 🔔 all the members in the group. I recommend doing this change (after the dash) every month or so.

 

It’s also good because it keeps your group fresh in the group members' minds.

 

 

Most of the time people are naming their groups without driving anyone to the group.

 

My group is Moms Who Slay Online Sales – Heelers

 

I do this because I know that people who want to generate sales aren’t searching for “Heeler”. I specifically put Slay Online Sales on the back end so it could be easily searched.

 

It’s not just hashtags and search terms. You should be driving people to your group using your Facebook +Instagram stories, as well as anytime you do a live video.

 

I would recommend mentioning your group this once a week. Make sure you have a link in your bio on Facebook and Instagram also.

 

One of the things that gets misconstrued when it comes to social media is that people think they have to be and all in and all at once. This isn’t true. Find new ways to repurpose your content. Find ways to talk about what you’ve got going on on social media.

 

 

Don’t put all your eggs in one basket 🧺either. What if you’re only focusing on your Facebook business page, and then you get shut down? That would be devastating!

 

BUT if you’re using more than one social media platform, you still have opportunities ✔️.

 

I want to invite you to build a personal brand across ALL social media platforms, not just one. Repurpose your content so if, God forbid, Instagram or Facebook shuts down you have your content in more than one place.

 

Create an 📧 email list because no one can take that form  you or shut it down.
