When it comes to Instagram for Business, it is the place to be! 🤩
Millions of marketers and influencers are actively using Instagram to grow their business or personal brand RIGHT NOW!
With that said, even though you're on Instagram, it's super important to make sure you're making the MOST of it. This platform is ALL about getting as many eyes on you as possible, 👀 while also keeping your audience engaged and wanting to come back for more.
You want in on how to make this happen?
I'll specifically be talking to you about 4 common mistakes that people make when it comes to marketing their online business on Instagram. If you can identify and understand these mistakes that so many online marketers are making, I'm confident you can make that shift and become more successful on Instagram in the future 📈
So, let’s get this party started, shall we? Here are the 4 mistakes you may be making on Instagram:
Instagram Marketing Mistake #1: You’re Creating Posts in First Person.
“It's not always all about you, Karen” 😂
Listen, people want to feel special. They want to feel acknowledged. And they definitely want the message to speak to them on a personalized level. So, when you use words like “I” or “me”, you’re then making the post about you instead of your audience 😭
I know this may sound trivial, but making this small change is critical. The goal is to get your audience to put themselves in your shoes (heels would be my first choice of course 💁♀️ LOL).
Your content should feel relatable and make your audience feel like you are specifically talking to them.
Next time you’re crafting a post, ask yourself: “How can I relate my story to the person who is actually reading my content?” Because at the end of the day, your audience has a story too 📚 so your content needs to make sense to them! Just as they're putting themselves in your shoes, you should be putting yourself in their shoes as well. Once you've mastered this, your content, captions, hashtags, etc. will flow like a river, baby! 🌊
The goal is to always post with intention and the purpose of making an impact. Leaving “I” and “me” at the door can help you achieve this.
Instagram Marketing Mistake #2: You’re Not Getting on Camera
MORE Pictures Please! 📸
Getting on camera is so important to your personal brand strategy because your face is literally your brand. Making it a point to be in front of the camera more often is a great way to build connections. You are amazing and people want to connect with YOU! Whether it be selfies or short video clips, these things give people a glimpse of your personal life and that automatically makes them feel like they know more about you.
So go on! Get on that camera more and work your magic ✨ After all, the like, know, and trust factor is built when people SEE people. Allow the person behind the phone or computer to come through. It may be a little uncomfortable at first, but the more you put yourself out there and get in front of your camera, the more comfortable you’ll get with it – guaranteed!
Instagram Marketing Mistake #2: Size Doesn’t Always Matter
More isn't always better 😲
Despite common belief, you actually don’t have to be a top marketing influencer to make tons money on Instagram. Did you know that you can make hundreds of thousands of dollars WITHOUT a gigantic following?? This has been proven over and over again. ☝ You can still monetize a majority of social media platforms without thousands of followers.
Your focus should be solely on your content and NOT the amount of followers you have.
There are people with massive followings who don’t make 1 dollar and the opposite is also true. Followers, likes, and comments do not always = $$$. Take note 📝 of the people who are consistently engaging and paying attention to you on your Instagram feed, because those are your superfans. Talk to those humans and ask them questions! Then, you can continue to create content that they want to see and will therefore engage with.
Instagram Marketing Mistake #4: You Don’t Realize What You’re Selling (You’re Selling Everything!)
People need to know that you’re a valuable resource! 💎
You followers will generally come to you to either learn something, get inspired, or feel empowered. Whether your content strategy includes educating them or empowering them (maybe a little bit of both!), you have to be there for them!
Always aim to bring something to the table that’s going to help your audience become better. Your goal is to offer your audience value that keeps them coming back for more. Ask yourself: “What idea am I selling my audience?” This is an IDEA and NOT necessarily a physical product❗ Identify the useful idea that you’re selling to your niche audience, and SELL.
Let me ask you Heeler, how many of these simple mistakes have you made?
If you’ve realized that you’re making one or all of these mistakes, no worries. I'm so happy because that was goal of this blog. Now that you’re aware of these mistakes, it’s going to be much easier to PIVOT and change you’re social media strategy. 🤗
To recap:
⭐You now know to avoid creating posts in first person because they’re less relatable.
⭐Smash any uncomfortable feelings you have and get in front of that camera because people want to see YOU.
⭐You can always monetize Instagram, regardless of your following.
⭐Realize that you’re not just selling a product, but you’re selling an idea.
I really hope you've found this information valuable and are able to apply it when posting on Instagram ASAP!
Until Next Time Heeler,
XO,
Marina Simone
