MLM Tips: How to do 3 Way Chats on Messenger with Your Upline

Picture this: You jump on a call with a lead who's warming up to you. The call seems to be going well, but you glance at the call time and see you've been on the phone with this human for over 40 mins! Suddenly, they tell you they're “not ready to take the leap yet”, and BOOM, just like that, you've wasted 40 minutes that could have been put towards something else 🤯

I remember when I first got into Network Marketing, my man would get annoyed because I was constantly on the phone, but wasn't making any money! I understood how he felt because I was feeling this way too. 😔 Wasting hours on the phone and not knowing what the outcome would be was getting exhausting if I'm being honest. 

 

 

Back then we didn't have Messenger available to chat with leads. But let me tell you, since I started incorporating these ‘3-way chats', I've been able to free up SO much of myself and was finally able to start dedicating more time into growing a successful Network Marketing business 🙏

 

 

In this Episode of the Slay Online Sales Series, 👠 I'll be sharing How to do 3 Way Chats on Messenger with Your Upline

So, what is a 3-way chat?

 

A 3-way chat is a messaging platform that allows you to add a third party (prospect/lead) to your private conversation, along with yourself and another human (in this case, your upline). Think of it as a 3-way-call, but with a private message! You have the option to easily plug someone in with the touch of a button. 📲 3-way chats can be used on Both Instagram + Facebook messenger, so you have the option to use whichever social media platform works best for you. 

 

 

 

This is honestly one of the best ways for you to be able to sift and sort through your interested prospects in a quick and organized way. It will help you determine which leads are ‘really' interested after that curiosity post goes up. 💭



My goal for today is to go over the 2 top reasons why you should be using 3-way chats, and how to effectively start using it to manage your leads. 

 

 

Reason #1 to Use a 3-Way Chat:

It will help you save time AND keep organized. ⌚📅 I don't know about you, but I do not enjoy have 50+ unread text messengers on my personal line. I sometimes find myself forgetting to get back to friends and family because of the endless thread of messages on my phone. 

 

 

Look, whether you're a mom or not, your time is precious and none of us have time for the nonsense and games. 🙅‍♀️ By using these 3-way chats, you won't waste time anymore because you can now gauge those people who aren't responding on Messenger on keep it movin' 💃 Less time wasted on dead-end leads = more time spent with potentially interested people! 

 

Reason #2 to Use a 3-Way Chat:

 

PSA: 🗣 You are the messenger, not the message!

 

When people are interested in joining you, it’s not because you’re the almighty (although we may feel that way 😉). It's all about a story or an inspiring message you shared with them that captured just enough of their attention to want to take a closer look. It is up to you to not overdo it and give them a whole dissertation on your company – there are people for that. 😂 You want to be the messenger!

 

What do messengers do? Messengers connect!

 

Your goal as a messenger is to connect them to the tool. In Network Marketing, this usually means connecting them to your upline. 3-way chats in Messenger help prospects get their questions answered from someone who is not you.

 

Your prospects probably know more about you than you think they, BUT they don’t know your upline. So when you connect them, be sure to edify your upline in a positive and relatable way, as that's how they will see that person when they join the chat. It's like you’re building up suspense for these people, which will usually get them excited to chat with your upline to see what they have to say. 

 

By doing these 3-way chats, you’re going to learn the language and how to talk to these prospects for your organization/team. If you can close your own social marketers, that’s amazing! But, what if your social marketers can’t close their own social marketers? It will then stop at you, and you'll soon find yourself recruiting for the rest of your life. 😭 We definitely don’t want that!

Best Network Marketing Business

 

Your upline typically knows more than you, which is good because by connecting these two people, you can easily show a simple system that works. I always aim to find a person that’s going to connect and relate with my prospects. When people feel an emotional connection to someone, they make decisions. 👌

 

Now let’s jump into the process:

 

You always want to set up the 3-way chat expectation in the invite. I like to use a voice memo, and I also have pre-written scripts in my notes. This is saying something along the lines of: “Hey Jane, I’m so excited you checked out the business. You’re going to love _______. Right after you watch this I’m going to connect you with my incredible BFF, _______. She’s a mom who has taken this to the TOP. I think you both have similar stories and I can’t wait for you to meet her. I’ll check back in 15 minutes. Sound good?”

 

 

Be sure to send it in a voice memo so they can hear your excitement and passion. Always let them know that you will follow up with them in 30 minutes to 1-hour MAX. Time is of the essence here – hit the metal while it's hot! 🔥

⭐ I've noticed Edification is where a lot of people drop the ball. Make sure to compliment your prospect before connecting them with your upline. For example, you could say something like: “Hey Marina, I want you to meet my girl, Danielle. She has been interested in looking at (company) because of x, y, and z. She’s a brand new mom and I’m really excited to work with her. I would love it if you could share your story and why you chose (company).”

 

To Prospect: “I want you to meet (name). She is not only one of the top earners, but she’s just real and her story is so similar.”

 

Doing it this way builds a connection and at the end of the day, you want your prospect and upline to have a connection.

 

So in a nutshell, the edification process goes like this:

1.) Compliment the prospect/give a little background on who the prospect is

2.) Let your upline leader know what information your prospect has seen. 3-way chats are amazing, but don’t expect your upline to do all the work for you – they need to be filled in.

3.) Let your upline leader know why you chose that particular prospect and who they are. Also, let them know what connections or common ground they both have.

4.) Now you can kick back and relax for a second. You’ve already handled one of the most important parts, which is building a connection between the two. 

 

 

One thing: I have never put anyone in a chat with my sponsor unless my prospect has seen information, shown real interest, and has asked real questions on the subject. So if someone doesn’t respond to my message after I send them a video, I’m not just going to throw them on a chat. Pointless! You can’t take a cold lead and turn it into a hot lead if they aren’t giving you the time of day. 

 

Once you've confirmed they've watched the video or shown interest, you can then connect them with an upline leader. Remember to mention the rank and success of the upline member to the prospect. 🏆

Now let’s go over the close 🤝

 

This can get lost in translation so I’m going to be clear and give some examples:

 

The Close: The upline will take over, connect, and ask questions to see where the prospect is at. For example, “On a scale of 1 to a 10, how ready is this person?

Remember, the point is to sift and sort through to determine the interest level of that prospect. Don’t just assume that all your uplines are going to close these humans for you. Though there is a chance of that happening, ultimately, it will still be up to YOU to follow up and ask the hard questions. You could treat it as an interview process. Get right down to business! 💼👠

 

Let the expert, (in this case your upline) work their magic while you quietly shadow the conversation – this is a great learning experience, btw!  

 

On the flip side: Let’s say you're the one doing the 3-way chat for your downline. A piece of advice, do not let the conversation go cold 🥶. ALWAYS  aim to end with a question. 

 

 

Remember, Heeler, if you keep these tips in mind when it comes to 3-way chats, I promise you, your volume will double 📈.

 

 

You may feel like you don’t need anyone else’s help and I get that because I was the same way, but trust me, getting help from your upline is the smartest thing you could do because it’s going to show your prospects that they only need limited info to start! All they need to do is just ATM (add, tag, message) or send a video to connect the dots. That’s how simple this business really is!

 

Now's the time for you to stop thinking you need to know everything. Step away from the word vomit and become the connector! Be the messenger, not the message and remember, these 3-way chats can truly help you explode your biz!
